• An enduring and wildly beloved American landmark is the Empire State Building. Because of its Art Deco architecture and vast, open observation decks, this 1930s construction stood as the highest skyscraper in the world for many years and is still a popular tourist destination in New York City. • The Empire State Building is undoubtedly the most well-known structure in the United States, and I adore travelling to, reading about, and photographing it. Even if it isn’t the tallest anymore, it’s nonetheless spectacular, just as it was when it was first built. This renowned structure played a significant role in New York City’s history during the 20th century. Here are some amazing facts about its history and construction.
• At 102 stories, the Empire State Building is an Art skyscraper located in the Manhattan borough of New York City. It was designed by architectural firm Shreve, Lamb, & Harmon, with construction beginning in 1930 and being completed in 1931. It is 1,250 feet tall before you count the antenna, and 1,454 feet tall with the antenna. While it was the tallest building in the world for a few decades, it is now the fifth tallest building in the United States and the twenty-eighth tallest in the world.

Most significant works architecture

1. Shreve, Lamb, and Harmon created the Empire State Building in the Art Deco style.  The height of the Empire State Building, with its 203-foot (61.9 m) pinnacle, is 1,453 feet 8+916 inches (443.092 m), or 1,250 feet (381 m) tall to the 102nd level. [30] Although only the lowest 86 levels are useable, it was the first structure in the world to be above 100 stories tall
2. The American Society of Civil Engineers Empire State Building has named the structure one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.  The New York City Board of Estimate and the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission have recognized the structure’s interior street floor as a landmark.  In 1986, it received the designation of National Historic Empire State Building Landmark.
3. The Empire State Building’s vast lot and comparatively short base give it a symmetrical massing. The base, shaft and capital are the three horizontal pieces that make up its articulation, which are analogous to the parts of a column.                                              Construction

Empire State Building Starlet, served as the contractors. Rask and Pierre du Pont provided the majority of the project funding, while James Farley Empire State Building General Builders Supply Corporation provided the building supplies.  The project construction Empire State Building superintendent was John W. Bowser,[191] and Homer G. Bascom was the building Empire State Building structural engineer.

Hotel demolition

1. On October 1, 1929, the old Waldorf-demolition Astoria’s got under way. The disposal of the old hotel’s granite, wood chips, and “‘valuable’ metals such as lead, brass, and zinc” was also problematic because they were not in high demand.
2. Rask had acquired the necessary finance for the building’s development by the time the hotel’s deconstruction got under way.  Rask refused to abandon the project because to the advancements made up to that time, despite the economic slump.
3. Smith, who had no stock interests, nor Rask, who had stopped speculating in the stock market the year before, experienced financial losses as a result of the fall.[199] Rask and Smith began construction despite the lack of demand for additional office space as a result of the stock market crash[200] because postponing the project would have resulted in bigger losses for the investors.

Steel structure

1. Before the old hotel had been entirely destroyed, a structural steel contract had been awarded on January 12, 1930[201], and excavation had started 10 days later on January 22,[202].[204] Early in March,[205] the excavation was almost finished, and on March 17,[206][2] work on the building itself began.
2. Lamb conducted a press conference to discuss the building plans around this time. He talked about the large-block Indiana limestone exterior, which was somewhat more expensive than smaller bricks, the reflective steel panels running parallel to the windows, and the vertical lines of the structure.

It was built as part of a competition to build the tallest structure in the globe

• As New York’s economy experienced an unprecedented boom in the late 1920s, construction workers raced to build the tallest skyscraper in the world. The Chrysler Building, an ornate Art Deco skyscraper designed by auto magnate Walter Chrysler as a “monument to me,” and the Bank of Manhattan building, located at 40 Wall Street, were the two main competitors. When former New York Governor Al Smith and General Motors executive John J. Rask unveiled plans for the Empire State Building in August 1929, the contest to build the tallest tower in the world really heated up.
• Chrysler made one more adjustment to his plans after learning that the Empire State would be 1,000 feet tall and added a stainless steel spire to the top of his tower. Unfortunately for Chrysler, Rask and Smith just went back to the drawing board and came up with an even taller design for the Empire State Building, causing the Chrysler Building to fly to a record 1,048 feet.1. Up until the first World Trade Center tower’s completion in 1970, it would continue to hold the record for highest building in the world for nearly 40 years.
• The general manager of the Empire State Building even sent a card with the message, “Happy Anniversary, Dad,” on the Reynolds Building’s 50th anniversary in 1979.
• Despite its enormous scale, the Empire State Building’s design, planning, and construction were completed in about 20 months. Following the demolition of the Waldorf-Astoria hotel, which had previously occupied the property, builders Starlet Brothers and Keen quickly constructed the new skyscraper in 410 days using an assembly line method.
